How to do Kizomba Musicality interpretation is one of the most asked questions in our lessons.
There is a natural progression during the process of learning Kizomba Dance. You can learn like the natives with family and friends or you can go to a Dance Studio to learn this beautiful dance with a learning system.
At the ALC Kizomba & Semba Academy we share a lot of different tips to be able to better understand Kizomba Dance and Kizomba Music (with all the different music styles under the Kizomba Umbrella). You can find there different lessons that will focus deep in all this subjects.
One of the last lessons was precisely to open the students mind to the power of musicality, either if you are dancing socially in improvisation or if you are choreographing a song for a show.
We called that lesson “KIZOMBA IN THE MUSIC”
You can watch bellow an excerpt of that lesson, where you will see the first example that is the basic combination in flat beat, that can be used in any song and in any part of that song. The next 3 examples, shows how you can transform the same combination to be adapted to the part of the music you are dancing.
YES! It is possible to do it in improvisation.
OF COURSE! Both leader and follower need to have a good technique, they need both to listen to the same music and the magic will happen!
It is easier if you already know the song (mainly for the chorus and song breaks)
If it is the first time you are listening to a song, it will become more challenge, but with experience you will be able to “study” the song while dancing, being able to anticipate what will come!
5 Tips to Improve your Kizomba Dancing Musicality
- Learn the different parts of a Kizomba song composition:
- Intro
- Verse
- Chorus
- Bridge (is the section of a song that provides contrast, like the slowdown without beat)
- Outro (opposite of the intro)
- When the song has lyrics, focus more on the voice than the beat
- Improve your technical skills as a leader and as a follower
- Less is more, when you are dancing socially
- Listen to as much music as you can, finding the similarities between the songwriting, allowing you to easily anticipate what’s next as you dance socially.
